Event Details

For the 20th May 2010 User Group meeting, we have another two presentations, the first presentation is targetted at end users, with the second being a more technical presentation.

The user group also thanks Diversus for sponsoring pizza for this months event.

Session 1 - SharePoint tools in 2010: Exploring some of the new features at our disposal when playing the SharePoint Consultant’s trump card; the automated leave request form?

5:30pm to 6:15pm

Description:

The leave form is often one of the first business processes implemented on any SharePoint site to either demonstrate its capability in a pre-sales meeting or get that quick win when launching a new intranet.

This session will explore some of the new functionality that exists within InfoPath and SharePoint Designer that can be leveraged to design such a system, as well as demonstrating a working version that shows how all these pieces come together.

Target Audience: End Users (not too technical).

Presenter: Matthew Menezes

Matthew Menezes is a Senior Technical Consultant for Diversus in Perth, Western Australia. In the .NET arena for the last 5 years, Matt has specialised in MOSS 07 for the last couple of years and most recently SharePoint 2010. He is an MCTS in both Applications Development and WSS Development & Configuration. Matt has previously spoken at the Perth SharePoint User Group with another Diversus lead consultant, Michael Hanes.

Session 2 - Building SharePoint 2010 Solutions with Visual Studio 2010

6:25pm to 7:10pm

Description:

SharePoint 2010 development is now a first class citizen with a new level of tool support in Visual Studio 2010. This session will demonstrate the basics steps to create a SharePoint project, configure a solution package, and create and work with project items like features and the new visual web part. Debugging, LINQ to SharePoint, and considerations for working with stand-alone applications will also be discussed.

Target Audience: Developers

Presenter: Michael Hanes

Michael Hanes is a senior technical consultant with Diversus, a provider of end-to-end business consulting and software solutions. With a broad skill set and specialist experience in the design and implementation of internet-facing web sites and intranet portals built on the SharePoint platform, Michael works with clients to balance their online presence with the modern, digital realities of social networking, collaboration, and content management. In addition to speaking at the Perth SharePoint User Group, Michael is an avid blogger.
